A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A bedside crib will allow you to keep your baby close to you at night without having to get out of bed. The breathable fabric lets you easily see baby and they're super easy to lower for those bleary-eyed 3am feedings.
Some also double up as a moses basket, too.
What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet, or co-sleeper, is a small crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep next to you in safety. It's a method of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you bond with your baby's new arrival.
These cots often have a side that is able to be raised, so you can easily reach your baby at night to feed and comforting. This is especially useful for mothers recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable which means you can use them for travel and as a temporary solution for newborns who aren't quite ready to move into a full-sized crib.
If you're looking for a bedside crib, look for a model with a breathable mattress and a cover to protect your newborn from staining. It is also advisable to purchase baby-safe accessories like a blanket, teether and cuddly toys.
If you are looking for a more long-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This will prolong their life and make the transition a lot easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be transformed into an infant bed. Some can be used in conjunction with a standard adult bed or a high-rise bed. This is a good choice for families who plan on traveling frequently or switching between bedrooms at night. You should also think about the size of your bedroom to ensure that you can fit the crib comfortably. Many cribs have risers which can be used to create an incline for babies who have reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib made by the English brand Joie is a fantastic addition to their line of high-quality products for infants. It is designed to aid parents in bonding with their children while sleeping together, without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper comes with features that help make bonding between parents enjoyable, safe and easy.

A gentle rocking motion can be activated by pressing a button. This will help soothe your baby to sleep with a gentle beat that doesn't disrupt their normal sleeping routine. This is great for older toddlers or babies who struggle to settle down. It can also assist with digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked into its place after the rocking has been completed to stop it from moving and can be secured to the bed's side by a strap and clip attachment. This makes the crib sturdy and secure, allowing you to sleep soundly without worrying that your baby might roll off into the middle. The round shape of the cocoon features soft padding on the sides and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress included is firm and comfortable and has an easy-to-clean cover. The crib is easy to put together and take down thanks to a lightweight aluminium frame that makes it very portable. The four locking wheels are covered in rubber to ensure the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. It is easy to clean using fabric wipes and is easy to put in a backpack, which makes it ideal for long-term absences from home.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
Designed to be a safe crib for babies from birth to six months old, this premium model features rocking bars and castors for easy mobility. The premium airflow mattresses offer a comfy sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are six different height settings, including an incline setting that can help with reflux and congestion.
In contrast to other cribs for bed which can be difficult to clean due to their incessant stream of snot and dribble The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir comes with a wipe-clean liner and fabric that can be washed in the machine. Additionally, it comes with an upper bar that is easily lowered for nighttime feeds without needing to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna found that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleep space for her newborn. She was delighted that it didn't rock like other models, meaning it wasn't waking her in the night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feeds. She also enjoyed that the side was lowered so she didn't have to reach out over her partner to lift the baby out for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a fashionable option for any bedroom. It looks more like a designer piece than some of the other cribs that we've tried, which look quite utilitarian in comparison. It's also fairly light at 11kg and comes with a carrying case which allows you to take it away on holidays or if you're moving your home. You'll need an extra waterproof sheet and safety strap for co-sleeping. There are helpful step-by-step instructions and illustrations to help you put it together as you open the box which makes it a one-person job when needed.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel connected with their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down, and moved through three different slide positions to be placed beside the parent's bed or in the corner, to ensure that the infant is always at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby easily. And you can store extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket under.
In bedside crib with wheels to other bedside cribs Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora folds flat and comes with a bag for travel so that it can be taken wherever. It was easy to move from room to room, and our mum testers felt it was the right size for a bedside crib. They also appreciated the large storage basket which is ideal for stowing nappies or bedding.
This is a great option for parents who want to sleep together, but don't wish to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners has mobility issues such as back pain or arthritis. Our mom testers love the ease with which they can access their baby in the Iora and it also has an optional reflux incline to aid in reducing gas.
Our mothers also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines which state that you should place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as some of the smaller cribs on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, you can choose another option.
